Hello, thank you for taking the time to find out about me.
My name is Becky Brocklehurst and I live in beautiful rural Somerset with my partner, our children and our two dogs Lola and Rufus and our cats Lily, Muffin and Mabel.
I began lily and mo in 2011 when my youngest daughter started school. Until then I hadn’t really had a lot of experience with sewing but I had always had a love of home furnishings and embroidery. It was a steep learning curve but I very quickly fell in love with sewing and found that it allowed me to be creative in a very calm and relaxed way. In the early days I made simple bunting and felt dogs which I sold at local fetes and craft fayres.
After a year or so I found the wonderful patterns of Ginger Melon. They taught me about giving my work personality and individuality. I really love her patterns and they soon became the main part of my business, especially Flora the Explorer who I adapted over and over again.
While running lily and mo I have also been studying for my English Degree and last year I took some time out to complete it. Taking a step back from the business proved to be a really good thing as it allowed me time to explore and research different styles and methods of sewing and character creation. I’m now back focusing fully on lily and mo and I’m raring to go. While my old reliables from Ginger Melon will still feature strongly in my collection there will also be some characters that I have created myself alongside them. I’m also planning to incorporate some contemporary folk embroidery in my pieces. I’d very much appreciate your feedback on my work and look forward to hearing from you all.
